Description

The only infant- and child-care book you’ll ever need—from the people millions of parents turn to for trusted advice.

The pediatricians behind the celebrated KidsHealth website have created a jargon-free, comprehensive guide unlike any baby book you've ever read before. Full of the latest research on child development, The KidsHealth Guide for Parents has the same friendly style as the popular website—the most visited site on children’s health and development. No wonder KidsHealth has been judged the “Best Info About Children’s Health on the Web” by Net Mom! Whether you are a parent-to-be looking for pregnancy advice and baby basics or you have a preschooler and are struggling with discipline issues and toilet teaching, you will appreciate all that this book has to offer you and your child.

The KidsHealth Guide for Parents includes:

  • Straightforward advice for a healthy pregnancy and the essentials of newborn care
  • Information on what’s normal in a newborn and when to be concerned
  • Facts (and myths) about immunizations
  • What you need to know to make the circumcision decision
  • Guidance on finding a doctor who’s good for both your child and you
  • What to expect during a doctor visit
  • Growth and body mass index charts updated with the latest national standards
  • Easy-to-use reference sections on what your child's symptoms mean, when to call the doctor, and how to handle common injuries and emergencies
  • Fast access to everything you need to know about infections and other common (and not so common) childhood illnesses
  • Valuable information about temperament, behavior, and discipline
  • A guide to health issues when adopting
  • Tips for finding reliable health information on the Web
  • Answers to questions about alternative medicine
  • Ways to cut through the confusion of health insurance and managed care
  • Advice on choosing toys, games, and activities that are best for your child’s developmental stage
  • And so much more!
